The woman, identified as Samanvitha Dhareshwar, was out for an evening walk with her husband and three-year-old son in the suburb of Hornsby when tragedy struck.

Speeding BMW triggered fatal chain collision

According to the initial investigation, the family was crossing near a carpark entrance when a Kia car slowed down to let them pass. At that moment, a speeding BMW driven by a 19-year-old allegedly rammed the Kia from behind. The impact pushed the Kia forward, directly into the woman who was walking just ahead of her family.

Emergency services rushed her to the hospital, but despite all efforts, doctors could not save her or her unborn baby. Her husband and child survived the crash with minor injuries.

The 19-year-old driver of the BMW has been charged with multiple offences, including dangerous driving causing death and causing the death of an unborn child. Authorities have denied him bail, calling the case extremely serious.

Victim was an accomplished IT professional

According to her LinkedIn profile, Samanvitha was a qualified IT systems analyst, specialising in business application administration and support. She was working as a test analyst for Alsco Uniforms at the time of her death.

Road safety experts and community members have called for stronger enforcement of speed limits, especially in pedestrian-heavy zones, to prevent such tragedies. Police are continuing their investigation and reviewing CCTV footage to understand the exact sequence of events.

What was meant to be a peaceful family walk turned into a devastating loss, a tragedy that has left two families and an entire community, grieving.
