This generation is often reluctant to depend on others for their happiness. Gone are the days when women accepted to live in a world of patriarchy. Speaking of, an incident demonstrating women’s will to take charge of their lives and live on their own terms has come to light.
Sarah Wilkinson, a 42-year-old woman from the United Kingdom, dedicated two decades to saving for her dream wedding, even without a life partner in the picture. Unwavering in her desire for a grand celebration, she decided to host a wedding ceremony herself. Ms Wilkinson purchased an engagement ring and celebrated with her friends at Harvest House in Felixstowe, Suffolk.
While it wasn’t an official wedding, it was her special day. “I might not have this with a partner by my side, but why should I miss out?” said Ms Wilkinson, who works as a credit controller. She spent £10,000 on the celebration, saved over the years along with occasional windfalls like bingo wins.
Forty close family and friends joined her on September 30, and another 40 later celebrated at the nearby tennis club. The joyous occasion was filled with smiles and warm memories, as Ms. Wilkinson made her dream come true.
Sarah was not the first woman who demonstrated love for herself in this manner. Earlier this year, 25-year-old Sofi Maure married herself. She also posted pictures of herself wearing a white wedding dress and a gold tiara. Unbeknownst that her wedding won’t last long, excited Sophie also baked a cake for her big day. After spending 24 hours in her own company she started considering a divorce.
