The ongoing conflict between India and Canada concerning Khalistan terrorism has taken an intriguing twist with Saudi Arabia and Turkey entering the diplomatic fray. On the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, waded into the Kashmir issue. Simultaneously, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed the matter during the general debate.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan expressed support for the Muslim population in Jammu and Kashmir during a meeting organized by the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC). He affirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to safeguarding the Islamic identity and dignity of Muslims and assured them of unwavering support.

According to a statement from the Saudi Foreign Ministry, Prince Faisal bin Farhan stated, “Saudi Arabia always stands with areas facing conflict and unrest, including Jammu and Kashmir. We support the Muslim people in their efforts to preserve their Islamic identity. “Saudi Arabia, during this meeting, characterized the Jammu and Kashmir issue as a serious challenge to regional security and stability, cautioning that its unresolved status could lead to further instability.

Furthermore, Prince Faisal bin Farhan emphasized Saudi Arabia’s consistent involvement in mediating conflicts, including its efforts to de-escalate tensions and seek peaceful solutions in accordance with international resolutions. This stance underscores Saudi Arabia’s steadfast support for the Islamic community. Other Saudi officials, including Minister of International Multilateral Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Rassi and Director General of the Foreign Minister’s Office Abdulrahman Al-Dawood, also participated in the meeting.

However, India has been steadfast in its position that it will not accept third-party mediation on the Jammu and Kashmir issue, insisting that discussions must remain bilateral between India and Pakistan.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in his general debate address, called for a just and lasting peace in Kashmir through dialogue and cooperation between India and Pakistan. He asserted that such a resolution would pave the way for regional peace, stability, and prosperity in South Asia. This statement comes in the wake of Erdogan’s recent meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the G-20 summit in New Delhi, where discussions centred on strengthening trade and infrastructure relations.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time Turkey has raised the Jammu and Kashmir issue at the UN. Erdogan had previously addressed the matter during a United Nations General Assembly session last year. India responded by deeming his statement completely unacceptable, urging Turkey to respect the sovereignty of other nations and rethink its policies.
