Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday condemned a brutal Russian drone strike on the railway station in Shostka, Sumy region, which has left one dead and at least 30 injured. Two trains were struck in the drone attack carried by Russia. Highlighting the deliberate targeting of civilians, Zelenskyy called on the international community to move beyond words and take decisive action against the ongoing terror inflicted by Russia.
In a post on X, Ukrainian President labelled the attack “savage” and called out Russia for attacking civilians. He stated that preliminary reports indicate that both Ukrzaliznytsia staff and passengers were at the site of the strike. A 71-year-old man was found dead in one of the wrecked carriages. Zelenskyy assured that all emergency services are on the ground and assisting the victims.
“A savage Russian drone strike on the railway station in Shostka, Sumy region. All emergency services are already on the scene and have begun helping people. All information about the injured is being established. So far, we know of at least 30 victims. Preliminary reports indicate that both Ukrzaliznytsia staff and passengers were at the site of the strike,” Zelenskyy wrote on X.
President Zelenskyy calls for strong global action
Zelenskyy further emphasised that the attack was a deliberate act of terror targeting civilians and called for urgent and strong measures to end Russia’s ongoing violence. He reiterated that it’s high time to take action against Moscow, stating that “Lip service is not enough.”
“The Russians could not have been unaware that they were striking civilians. And this is terror the world must not ignore. Every day Russia takes people’s lives. And only strength can make them stop. We’ve heard resolute statements from Europe and America – and it’s high time to turn them all into reality, together with everyone who refuses to accept murder and terror as normal. Lip service is not enough now. Strong action is needed,” Zelenskyy added.
