US President Donald Trump said Thursday (December 4, 2025) that the US delegation had a 'very good' talk with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the Ukraine peace proposal, which gave him the 'impression' that Moscow 'would like to end the war.' Earlier on Wednesday, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law engaged in a five-hour-long meeting with Putin.

The top-tier talks mainly focused on ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict that began in February 2022. "Putin had a very good meeting yesterday with Jared Kushner and with Steve Whitkoff. What comes out of that meeting, I can't tell you because it does take two to tango," Trump told reporters in the White House. The US President further stated, "He (Putin) would like to end the war, that was their impression."

"No closer to resolving crisis in Ukraine': Senior Kremlin adviser

Earlier on Wednesday, Senior Kremlin adviser Yuri Ushakov said that the high-level talk was one of the most extensive exchanges between the two countries since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, but "no compromise" was reached on territorial issues.

Meanwhile, he noted that the key disputes, however, remained unresolved despite both US delegations reviewing potential paths toward a settlement. "We are no closer to resolving the crisis in Ukraine, and there is much work to be done," he said, adding that the talks continued late at night.

Ushakov added that senior Russian officials, including investment envoy Kirill Dmitriev, attended the talks, which explored several options for ending hostilities. "The discussion was confidential. We agreed not to disclose the substance of the negotiations," he said.

PM Modi likely to discuss Russia-Ukraine war

Russian President Vladimir Putin will kick off his two-day visit to India on Thursday. His arrival in New Delhi around 6:30 PM will be followed by a private dinner hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. The one-on-one conversation between the two leaders will likely continue until about 8.30 pm. PM Modi is expected to reiterate India’s position, calling for a swift end to the Russia-Ukraine war.
