At least four people lost their lives as Russia launched a heavy barrage of drones and missiles on Ukraine overnight into Sunday, with Kyiv bearing the brunt of the attack. A 12-year-old girl is reported to have been killed in the deadly strike. This marks the first significant bombardment since last month’s airstrike on Kyiv, which had killed at least 21. Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the attack in an X post and noted the casualties, while offering his condolences. He stated that the attack lasted for more than 12 hours, which were a deliberate, targeted terror against ordinary cities.
The main targets of the strikes were Kyiv and the region, Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, and Odesa regions, stated Zelenskyy. “In the capital, the building of the Cardiology Institute was damaged. As of now, four people have been reported killed in Kyiv, including a 12-year-old girl. My condolences to all the families and loved ones. Across Ukraine, at least 40 people are known to have been injured, including children,” wrote Zelenskyy.
Among the infrastructures that have been damaged in the Russian strikes include a bread-production facility, a tire manufacturing plant, private homes and apartment buildings, and other civilian infrastructure. Zelenskyy has assured that all necessary services have been deployed on the ground in view of the situation.
Zelenskyy warns ‘We will strike back’
He further slammed Russia for its action, stating that Moscow wants to keep fighting and killing. Zelenskyy has urged for maximum international pressure on Russia. He has alleged that Kremlin benefits from continuing this war and terror as long as it earns revenue from energy and operates a shadow fleet. Noting the Russian attack and the casualties it has caused, Zelenskyy reiterated that Ukraine will continue to strike back to deprive Moscow of those revenue streams and to compel it toward diplomacy.
“We will continue to strike back to deprive Russia of those revenue streams and to compel it toward diplomacy. Everyone who wants peace must back President Trump’s efforts and halt any Russian imports. The time for decisive action is long overdue, and we count on a strong response from the United States, Europe, the G7, and the G20,” added Zelenskyy in his post.
