Russia Earthquake

“This was a severe earthquake, the strongest in decades,” Kamchatka Governor Vladimir Solodov stated in a video on Telegram, noting damage to a kindergarten from intense tremors. The initial tsunami wave reached Severo-Kurilsk, the primary settlement on Russia’s Pacific Kuril Islands, as reported by local governor Valery Limarenko. Waves of 3-4 meters (10-13 feet) were also recorded along sections of Kamchatka’s coast.

Tsunami waves struck California and Hawaii hours after a massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake rocked Russia’s Far East. The US National Tsunami Warning Centre has officially said that tsunami waves measuring 1.6 feet above tide level have been observed in Arena Cove in the U.S. state of California on Wednesday. Tsunami waves up to 4.9 feet above tide level hit Hawaii, but the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre confirmed, based on available data, that the island state will not face a major tsunami.
