Wagner Group Chief died: Russia on Sunday confirmed the death of the Wagner group Chief Yevgeny Prigozhin in the deadly plane crash, following the report of the investigative committee.
Russia’s Investigative Committee on Sunday claimed that the Wagner group Chief Yevgeny Prigozhin was killed in a plane crash, through genetic testing.
Svetlana Petrenko, spokesperson of the investigation committee, in a statement, said that forensic and genetic testing of all 10 bodies recovered from the crash site was identified. However, the spokesperson did not give any details about the cause of the crash. On Wednesday, the plane carrying Prigozhin, who led a short rebellion against Russia’s military, and others crashed halfway between Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Earlier, after the deadly plane crash, Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday asked the mercenary group fighters to sign an oath of allegiance to the state.
Earlier around two months ago, Prigozhin staged a mutiny against Russia’s military, leading his mercenaries from Ukraine toward Moscow. President Vladimir Putin termed the act as “treason” and vowed harsh punishment for those involved.
To control the rising situation, Instead of withdrawing from the deal with Prigozhin, the Kremlin allowed the private army to restrain their work. However, questions remain about whether Prigogine will eventually return for the brief coup that has become the biggest challenge to power in Putin’s 23-year rule.
