London: After a lifetime of waiting, Prince Charles is finally set to be the next king of Britain. Prince Charles has been waiting to wear the crown all his life. Now at the age of 73, that moment has finally come.
According to news agency AFP, Prince Charles will be formally proclaimed king on Saturday morning.
Charles will be the oldest person to ever assume the British throne. Charles became King Charles III on Thursday following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
Born in the royal family, the life of Charles has also been special in many ways. Charles is a symbol of the modernization of the British monarchy. He was the first heiress not to be educated at home. He was the first to earn a university degree, and growing up in the ever-increasing glare of the media, the respect for royalty had faded.
Charles was alienated by many after his divorce from Princess Diana. For this, as well as when he pressed on rules that bar the royals from interfering in public affairs, many people were still angry with him. He has been involved in debates on issues like environmental protection and architectural conservation. It will be interesting to see how he presents his image as a public figure. One thing to note is that Charles is nowhere as popular as his mother.
Charles has been saying that he intended to reduce the number of working royals, cut expenses and better represent modern Britain.
