Protests in Iran continue despite judiciary orders mass execution

New Delhi: There seems to have no hope for the protestors seeking justice in Iran but execution. The Iranian Parliament has asked the judiciary to carry out the harshest punishment against nearly 15,000 people for indulging in “riots”.

Following which, Iran’s Revolutionary Court has awarded death penalty to an anti-government protestor while handing out jail terms to five others, said media reports.

This is the first death sentence in trails against those who have been demonstrating against the ruling clerics for over 8 weeks to pull down the barbaric dress rules. During this period, more than 300 demonstrators have been killed and nearly 15,100 detained, as per the activist HRANA news agency.

While asking for the “harshest punishment”, the Iranian authorities termed the protestors as “riotors” and said they have committed “corruption on Earth”.

The outbreaks against the government started to take place in almost every part of Iran after the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish Iranian woman, on September 16.

The woman was beaten to death by the Iran’s Morality Police in custody for not abiding by strict uniform rules like covering head in public, triggering a mass outrage.

Despite the orders of mass execution, people seem not to slow down their protests as it continues for 59th day today, claiming media reports.

A Shift Towards BJP's Aggressive Hindutva Amid Opposition's Leadership Crisis

The Maharashtra election may further push the Congress down as it has lost the election at a time when it needed a win most desperately. Though the Congress succeeded in pushing the BJP to a corner and stopping it at less than a majority on its own, it failed to make any headway further.
