Pope Francis (88), who was recovering from double pneumonia, passed away on Monday, April 21, at his home in the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta. Vatican administrator, Cardinal Kevin Ferrell announced, “Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow, I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis. At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the house of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of His Church.”
On Sunday, Pope Francis delivered his Easter wishes from the balcony of St Peter’s Basilica to a large crowd gathered in Vatican Square. Ahead of this, he had a private meeting with US Vice President JD Vance. Notably, he was the first Pontiff from the Jesuit Order and the 1st from outside Europe since the 8th century.
