The conversation comes at a time when Doha is reeling under the pressure of a recent attack. It was on Tuesday, September 8, that Israel launched a strike aimed at Hamas leadership based in Qatar, marking an expansion of its military operations as ceasefire negotiations over the Gaza conflict remain at a standstill and the threat of a renewed offensive looms. Black smoke was seen rising over Doha, the capital of Qatar, with local authorities confirming the incident. Casualty details remain unclear, and the specific method of the strike has not yet been disclosed.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed it carried out a “precise strike” targeting senior Hamas leaders, stating efforts were made to minimize civilian casualties but withholding details about the exact location. Israeli media reports identified the targets as top Hamas officials, including Khalil al-Hayya and Jabarin, and noted that the operation allegedly received approval from former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Was Us Aware of the Attack
U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that the strike was ordered by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and distanced himself from the incident, clarifying that he did not authorize or signal the attack.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump reiterated:
“This morning, the Trump Administration was notified by the United States Military that Israel was attacking Hamas, which, very unfortunately, was located in a section of Doha, the capital of Qatar. This was a decision made by Prime Minister Netanyahu—it was not a decision made by me.”
He criticized the strike, calling it a unilateral action in a sovereign nation and a close ally of the United States. However, he also acknowledged that eliminating Hamas, a group he said has “profited off the misery of those living in Gaza,” is a worthy goal.
Meanwhile, Qatar’s Advisor to the Prime Minister and official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majed Al Ansari, claimed that Doha had prior knowledge of the attack.
The statements being circulated about Qatar being informed of the attack in advance are baseless. The call from a U.S. official came during the sound of explosions caused by the Israeli attack in Doha.
