Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday received Ethiopia’s highest honour from Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. Earlier, the Indian prime minister was received by the Ethiopian Prime Minister at the Addis Ababa airport.
Ethiopia confers ‘Great Honor Nishan’ on PM Modi
In a special ceremony hosted at the Addis International Convention Centre on Tuesday, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Dr. Abiy Ahmed conferred the highest award of Ethiopia the ‘Great Honor Nishan of Ethiopia’ upon Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for his exceptional contribution towards strengthening India-Ethiopia partnership and for his visionary leadership as a global statesman.
The MEA said in a tweet, “Prime Minister@narendramodi, in a special address to strengthen the bilateral ties between India and Ethiopia and to congratulate them on their visionary leadership, has blessed the highest national award of the country, named “Grand Order of the Star of Ethiopia,” to Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali. The Prime Minister presented this honor to India’s 1.4 billion people and to the historical ties and friendship between India and Ethiopia. The Prime Minister expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the award given to Prime Minister@AbiyAhmedAli and to the Ethiopian people.”

Abiy Ahmed drove PM Modi to hotel
In a unique gesture, he also drove PM Modi to the hotel. On the way, he took a special initiative of taking PM Modi to the Science Museum and Friendship Park, which was not in the itinerary. The Nobel Peace Prize-winning Ethiopian PM’s special gestures show remarkable respect for the PM.
