PM Modi Japan Visit Live Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Tokyo, the capital of Japan, on Thursday night. He will be on an official two-day visit to Japan on 29 and 30 August. During this, he will participate in the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit and will meet Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
Important topics like trade, investment, defense and science and technology will be discussed in this visit. Prime Minister Modi will also meet representatives of Japanese industry and political leaders in Tokyo.
This visit is taking place at a time when relations between India and America are souring, especially after President Donald Trump imposed high tariffs on Indian products.
After the Japan visit on Saturday, Prime Minister Modi will go to China, where he will attend the 25th meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Before leaving for Japan, Prime Minister Modi wrote on Twitter: “I am confident that my visits to Japan and China will strengthen our national interests and priorities and promote useful cooperation for peace, security and sustainable development at the regional and global levels.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited his Japanese counterpart, Shigeru Ishiba, to attend the Al Impact Summit to be hosted by India in February 2026.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba on Friday exchanged agreements and reaffirmed their partnership on several fronts. During the joint presser, following the exchange of agreements, PM Modi stated the discussions between the two leaders were productive and purposeful. He announced that India and Japan have jointly charted a roadmap for the next decade.
PM Narendra Modi said, "Cooperation in the high technology sector is a priority for both of us. In this regard, Digital Partnership 2.0 and AI Cooperation Initiative are being taken up. Semiconductors and rare earth minerals will be at the top of our agenda."
