Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, following the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said on Sunday. During a special briefing in Tianjin, Misri confirmed that the Prime Minister will first address the SCO plenary session before meeting President Putin.
PM Modi In China Highlights: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held important discussions on Sunday during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin. Prime Minister Modi’s arrival in Tianjin is considered an important diplomatic opportunity for India, especially at a time when India-US relations have soured due to America’s tariff policies. Under this visit, PM Modi has come mainly to participate in the SCO summit to be held on 31 August and 1 September.
All eyes will be on the proposed meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping. It is expected that the two leaders will discuss economic cooperation and explore new ways to normalize bilateral relations. In an interview before his visit, PM Modi emphasized that both India and China are globally influential economies and share the responsibility to balance the unstable world economy.
This visit is taking place at a time when some positive changes have been seen in the relationship after the recent visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to India. In that visit, there was an agreement to resume border trade, restore direct flights and maintain peace in the border areas. All these initiatives are part of broader efforts to restore relations affected after the 2020 Galwan Valley clash.
