New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Both the leaders reviewed progress in bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, said Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
According to PMO, President Putin informed PM about the recent development in Russia. While discussing the situation in Ukraine, PM reiterated his call for dialogue and diplomacy.
Both leaders agreed to remain in touch and continue to make efforts to further strengthen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
Earlier this week, a civil war-like situation were building up in Russia after the Wagner Group of mercenaries declared war against the Russian Military.
Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner mercenary group rebelled against Kremlin and vowed to topple the Russian military leadership. He accused the Russian Military of launching air strikes on Wagner persons. Later, Russian Military managed to control the unfavorable situation.
