Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba on Friday exchanged agreements and reaffirmed their partnership on several fronts. During the joint presser, following the exchange of agreements, PM Modi stated the discussions between the two leaders were productive and purposeful. He announced that India and Japan have jointly charted a roadmap for the next decade.
In his address, PM Modi hailed both the countries as the two largest economies of the world and living democracies. He called the partnership between them essential not just for the two countries, but also for global peace and security. PM Modi laid importance on investment, innovation, economic security, environment, technology, health, mobility, people-to-people exchanges.
PM Modi said, “Our discussions today were productive as well as purposeful. We agree that as the two largest economies of the world and living democracies, our partnership is essential not just for the two countries but also for global peace and security. Strong democracies are natural partners in shaping a better world. Today, we have laid the foundation of a new and golden chapter in our special strategic and global partnership. We have charted a roadmap for the next decade. In the center of our vision lie investment, innovation, economic security, environment, technology, health, mobility, people-to-people exchanges.”

10 Trillion Yen Investment Targeted From Japan To India
PM Modi further stated that India and Japan have set a target of 10 trillion Yen in Japanese investment in India over the next ten years. He stressed that through the investment, emphasis will be laid on connecting India’s and Japan’s small and medium enterprises and startups.
“We have set a goal of investment of 10 Trillion Yen from Japan in India in the next 10 years. Special emphasis will be laid on connecting India’s and Japan’s small and medium enterprises and startups,” PM Modi added.

He also praised the Joint Crediting Mechanism for energy as a major victory, stating that India and Japan’s green partnership is as strong as the economic partnership. PM Modi announced the launch of economic security cooperation aimed at realising the objectives laid by both the countries.
“Our Joint Crediting Mechanism for energy is a major victory. It shows that our green partnership is as strong as our economic partnership. In this direction, we are also beginning the sustainable fuels initiatives and battery supply chain partnership. We are launching the economic security cooperation initiative. Under this, we will go ahead in critical and strategic sectors, with an extensive approach.”
Speaking further, PM Modi emphasised that cooperation in the high technology sector is a priority of both India and Japan, and initiatives will be taken accordingly.
“Cooperation in the high technology sector is a priority for both of us. In this regard, Digital Partnership 2.0 and AI Cooperation Initiative are being taken up. Semiconductors and rare earth minerals will be at the top of our agenda.”
