New Delhi: Former President of Pakistan General Pervez Musharraf passed away on Sunday. He was suffering from amyloidosis. On June 10, he was admitted to a major hospital in the UAE. Due to suffering from this disease for a long time, gradually his organ started failing. After which he was put on ventilator. Let us find out what is amyloidosis and what are its symptoms.
What is amyloidosis?
In amyloidosis, abnormal proteins called amyloid start forming in the body. It starts accumulating in the body parts. Because of this, the body parts stop working. This is a very serious disease. Kidney, heart, intestine, liver, nerve, skin and soft cells are affected due to amyloidosis. Sometimes it also becomes the reason for organ failure.
Sometimes amyloid is deposited throughout the body. Which is called systemic amyloidosis. Although it can be avoided at the initial stage. But if this problem increases then it becomes fatal. That’s why it is important to recognize its early symptoms.

What are the symptoms of amyloidosis?
People suffering from this disease does not show any symptoms at the initial stage. But as the disease becomes serious, so does the symptoms.

-Swelling of ankles and feet
-Weight loss
-Weakness and fatigue
-Carpal tunnel syndrome
-Persistent tingling in hands and feet
-Increase of tongue’s length
-Rashes around the eyes
-Difficulty swallowing food
-Joint Pain
-Diarrhea
If any of these symptoms are visible for a long time, then the doctor should be contacted without delay. According to the health expert, sometimes none of these symptoms appear in the patient. But suddenly the blood pressure rises and chest pain starts.
Causes of amyloidosis
Amyloidosis is caused by an abnormal build-up of a protein called amyloid. Amyloid is formed in the bone marrow and then deposited in a tissue or organ. When abnormal antibodies are formed in the bone marrow and cannot be broken down, amyloid begins to form in such a situation. Along with this, it also occurs due to the infection and inflammation of rheumatoid arthritis. Hereditary amyloidosis occurs due to genetic reasons.
These people can be victims of amyloidosis
Well, this disease can happen to anyone. But those whose age is more than 50 years, they are more at risk of this disease. More men than women suffer from this disease. Those who have a history of amyloidosis in their family can be affected by it.
African Americans have a higher risk of hereditary amyloidosis than other races. If someone is suffering from kidney disease and needs dialysis, such people are prone to amyloidosis. If a person has had an inflammatory or infectious disease, there is also a risk of amyloidosis.

There is no exact treatment for amyloidosis yet. But its effect is reduced by some therapy and medicines.
