In a shocking turn of events, a senior Pakistani-origin doctor has been accused of leaving a patient mid-surgery to have physical relationship with a nurse. The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) in the United Kingdom has allowed 44-year-old Pakistan-born doctor Suhail Anjum to return to work after being caught in a compromising position with a nurse. He was caught with the nurse inside an operating theatre after leaving a patient midway through surgery at a Manchester hospital. Consultant anaesthetist Suhail Anjum was accused of the wrong act in 2023. However, MPTS has granted him permission to resume practice. The case was being heard by the UK’s medical tribunal.
What Did Doctor Suhail Anjum Do?
According to various reports, Dr Suhail Anjum, a consultant anesthesiologist, left a patient midway during a gall bladder operation at the Tameside Hospital, Ashton-under-Lyne in Greater Manchester. Afterwards, the doctor was caught with a nurse in a compromising position in another operating theatre. The duo were caught by another nurse who walked into the theatre.
What BBC reported
According to a BBC report, the duo were caught in a “compromising position” by another nurse who walked into the theatre, and was shocked to see the woman “with her trousers around her knee area with her underwear on display” while Dr Anjum was “tying up the cord of his trousers”.
Who Is Doctor Suhail Anjum
During the recent hearing in the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS), Anjum, father of three, admitted to leaving the patient and engaging in physical activity with the nurse. He had travelled back to Pakistan after the incident. As the MPT has granted him permission to resume practice, he can now return to the UK. However, Anjum was absent from the operating room for eight minutes and the patient came to no harm.
The case was reported to the hospital management, and after an internal investigation, Anjum was dismissed in February 2024. Last week, he told the MPTS disciplinary tribunal that he wanted to continue his career in the UK and return with his family, who had moved to Pakistan, where he had been working as a doctor.
