Seven people died after eight unidentified armed men allegedly attacked a Lahore-bound bus in the Barkhan district of Balochistan on Tuesday. According to news agency Reuters, a gang of around 40 armed assistants attacked and killed seven Central Punjab-based passengers after taking them out of the bus.
Khadim Hussain, the assistant commissioner of the region, told Reuters that the killings occurred along a highway connecting Barkhan to the southern city of Dera Ghazi Khan in Punjab.” It remains unclear what motivated the attack, and no group has claimed responsibility for the killings.
Last week, a bomb exploded, targeting coal miners in a vehicle, leaving 11 dead and six wounded. In August 2023, Pakistan witnessed a wave of attacks that claimed dozens of lives, including assaults on police stations, infrastructure, and civilians.
However, this particular raid was claimed by the Baloch Liberation Army. In October 2023, insurgents also targeted Chinese nationals working in Balochistan, in response to China’s interest in the region related to the Belt and Road Initiative.”
