Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, on Friday, met with a sharp retort after being questioned about cross-border terrorism while entering the United Nations. When asked, “PM Sharif, when are you going to stop cross-border terrorism?” he initially appeared hesitant, but then responded firmly, “We are defeating cross-border terrorism. We are defeating them.” However, his bold claim was quickly challenged by the reporter, who shot back, “India is defeating you.”
Sharif’s remark came across as more of a defensive assertion than a reflection of ground realities. Despite repeated denials, Pakistan continues to face international criticism for its alleged support of militant groups operating across borders.
When asked by the news agency ANI, “PM Sharif, When are you going to stop cross border terrorism? as he entered the UN, Sharif first appeared reluctant to answer, but then responded saying, “We are defeating cross-border terrorism. We are defeating them.” The reporter in response to Sharif’s defeating remark, stated “India is defeating you.”

Meanwhile, it seems that Pakistan is also echoing the words of the United States and has admitted that Washington helped it secure a ceasefire with India during Operation Sindoor. A recent readout from Government of Pakistan regarding Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s meeting with United States President Donald Trump at the Oval Office suggests as much. During the meeting, Sharif’s statement, while praising Trump hints that the US President played a key role in initiating ceasefire.
The readout of Sharif’s meeting with Trump noted: “Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met with U.S. President Donald J. Trump at the Oval Office today. The Prime Minister lauded President Trump’s “bold, courageous and decisive leadership” for facilitating the Pakistan-India ceasefire and praised his initiative to invite key Muslim world leaders in efforts to bring an immediate end to the conflict in Gaza and restore peace in the Middle East.”
