Pakistan: Nawaz Sharif Gets Bail In Toshakhana Case By Accountability Court

Pakistan: Nawaz Sharif gets bail in Toshakhana case by accountability court

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz supremo Nawaz Sharif was granted bail in the Toshakhana case by the accountability court on Tuesday, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

The three-time former Prime Minister is accused of allegedly obtaining luxury vehicles from the treasury (Toshakhana) by paying 15 per cent of the actual price.

In 2020, Nawaz Sharif was declared ‘proclaimed offender’ in the Toshakhana reference by an accountability court and his permanent arrest warrant was also issued for his continued non-appearance.

Notably, Sharif — whose arrest warrant was suspended on October 19 — days before his arrival in Pakistan on Tuesday surrendered before the court of Judge Muhammad Bashir in the Toshakhana case, ARY News reported.

The NAB was directed not to arrest the former prime minister until October 24, that is today.

The accountability court judge after marking the attendance of Nawaz Sharif allowed him to leave the court premises.

The former prime minister has been granted bail in the Toshakhana case against a surety bond of 1 million Pakistani Rupees (PKR).

Earlier, NAB prosecutor in the court’s hearing didn’t oppose the petition against the arrest warrant of the former prime minister in Toshakhana reference in the accountability court conducted by Judge Mohammad Bashir, ARY News reported.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan’s caretaker government in Punjab suspended the sentence Nawaz Sharif in the in Al-Azizia reference, Geo News reported.

Information Minister Aamir Mir confirmed the Punjab cabinet’s decision, saying the decision was taken while exercising its constitutional powers under Section 401 of the criminal procedural code (CPC), which also authorises it to pardon any offender.

According to The News International, Nawaz, was granted protective bail in two graft cases while his arrest warrant in the Toshakhana case was suspended by an accountability court on Thursday, two days before his return to Pakistan on October 21 after spending four years of self-imposed exile in London.
