Pakistan Explosion: 3 Dead, 17 Injured In Karachi Airport Blast; China Calls It ‘Terrorist Attack’

The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan has confirmed the death of its two nationals in the explosion that occurred in Karachi’s international airport in Pakistan. The Embassy said that two have died, one person is injured and some local casualties have been reported.

The Chinese Embassy stated, “At around 11 pm on October 6th a convoy carrying Chinese staff of the Port Qasim Electric Power Company (Private) Limited was attacked near the Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, which caused two Chinese died, one Chinese injured and some local casualties.”

It asserted that the Chinese Embassy and Consulates General in Pakistan condemn this terrorist attack and express condolences to innocent victims of both the countries. It further mentioned that they have launched an emergency plan immediately and requested the Pakistan to investigate the attack thoroughly.

Pakistan’s Dawn News had reported about the explosion that occurred near Karachi Airport on Sunday night. The sounds were heard by different people and television footage showed smoke rising from the area near the report.

The Dawn reported one person was killed, while 11 others, including a foreigner were injured. According to the officials, 10 vehicles caught fire and the incident took place on Sunday night.

The Crime Investigation Department (CID) Director General Asif Ejaz Shaikh told Dawn that nothing about the nature of explosion was clear at the moment.

The Deputy Inspector General East, Azfar Mahesar informed about the incident and said according to the initial information, an oil tanker had caught fire which spread to several other vehicles causing collateral damage. He mentioned that they are investigating to find out if there was an element of terrorism involved in the explosion. “We are determining if there was an element of terrorism involved which we cannot rule out at the moment,” added the officer.
