On 6th September 2025, Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, specifically the Bajaur district's Kohsar Cricket Playground, was reduced to rubble by a bomb blast while a cricket match was underway, leaving residents in shock. According to media reports, the blast resulted in the death of a person named Fazlullah, and several others, including a small child, were injured.
The explosion occurred on Saturday afternoon when the Kohsar cricket playground was crowded with local players and spectators watching the match. Bajaur district police officer Waqas Rafique stated that this was a targeted attack involving several improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Witnesses reported that the explosion was so intense that it led to chaos within the playground.

One Dead, Several Injured
The police confirmed that Fazlullah was killed in the blast, while others were taken to the district hospital for medical treatment and are still under observation. Security forces quickly reached the scene and secured the area. They also launched an investigation into the origin and construction of the IEDs used in the attack. The police revealed that the explosives had been planted in the ground well before the spectators and players arrived for the scheduled game. Authorities have started combing the area for any clues that could lead them to the perpetrators responsible for this attack.

Militant Group Behind The Attack
No militant group has claimed responsibility for the bombing. Bajaur, which borders Afghanistan, has been the target of multiple terror attacks in the past. The region is known for the activities of banned organizations such as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Prior to the attack, local Salarzai tribes had warned of strict action against terrorists and their supporters, including demolishing houses that assist militants and imposing a fine of Rs 50 lakh.
Bajaur is one of the seven tribal districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and due to its proximity to Afghanistan’s Kunar province, it has been a hotspot for militant activity. Attacks on security forces, government officials, and peace committees have been frequent in the region. Although security forces have conducted targeted operations against the TTP in recent months, negotiations with local jirgas have not yielded any significant results. This incident has once again underscored the ongoing security challenges in the area.
