Pakistan: Incessant rainfall across Pakistan since June have resulted in a tragic toll of 173 people losing their lives and 260 others being injured, according to a report by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), as reported by ARY News.
The NDMA report revealed that among the casualties, there were 69 men, 32 women, and 72 children, while the injured comprised 110 men, 76 women, and 74 children. Punjab witnessed the highest number of fatalities with 67 people losing their lives in rain-related incidents, and out of the 260 injured, 158 were affected in Punjab.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded the death of 47 people due to the heavy rains, while Balochistan reported ten fatalities. The rainfall also claimed 21 lives in Sindh, 12 in PoK, and five in the Gilgit Baltistan region, as added in the report. Furthermore, 11 persons lost their lives in monsoon-related incidents in Islamabad.
The devastating rainfall caused damage to 1485 houses across the country and swept away 475 cattle heads, causing immense loss and destruction.
As the rain persisted, Pakistan’s Met Office issued warnings of urban and flash floods in Lahore and other areas. The city continued to receive heavy rainfall, with the Met Department cautioning about urban flooding in the low-lying areas of Lahore and flash flooding in the city’s nullahs.

The forecast indicated that rain-wind/thundershowers were expected at scattered places in Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Balochistan, and Gilgit Baltistan.
The NDMA has issued a warning of flooding in the tributaries of the Kabul River and Dera Ghazi Khan’s hill torrents from July 27 to 30. The situation remains critical as authorities and communities brace themselves to deal with the aftermath of the heavy monsoon rains.
