Pakistan and Bangladesh have taken measures to improve their relations in recent past. After the defence pact, the two nations may work closely on mobile phone monitoring, interception, and monitoring of social media activities together. Pakistan’s National Radio And Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) Managing Director Brig. Azmat Shabbir went to Dhaka on a five-day visit on May 25. Reports suggested that Pakistan and Bangladesh may seal a deal over web intelligence.
Bangladesh, Pakistan explore cybersecurity collaboration
According to reports, Shabbir had met with officials of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC) and held meetings. He proposed that Bangladeshi officials share expertise of Cyberspace warfare and Mobile phone interception. The two sides have decided that Bangladesh’s BTRC and NTMC will visit NRTC in Pakistan’s Haripur in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Pak officials took indirect route to Dhaka via Dubai
Shabbir and his two subordinates took a flight to Dubai and later reached Dhaka. They did not reach the destination directly. Pakistani officials took the Al Arabiya flight in return on May 30.
Bangladesh earlier procured Israeli spy gear for NTMC
Over two years ago, Bangladesh’s NTMC procured vehicle-mounted surveillance devices called Spearhead systems from an Israeli supplier Passitora.
The move is being seen that Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif and Bangladesh interim government head Muhammad Yunus are moving close to each other on cyber intelligence.
‘Anti-independence forces staged mock trial against Sheikh Hasina’
On the other hand, Awami League said in a statement that anti-national and anti-independence forces have staged a mock trial against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a kangaroo court formed to implement their political objectives in Bangladesh.
Formal charges were filed on Sunday against then Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for crimes against humanity committed during the student-led uprising in July-August 2024.
