New Delhi: At least 9 people died in a mass shooting took place at Monterey Park, California where a gunman opened fire Saturday night, reported the Los Angeles Times while citing to law enforcement.
As per some eyewitnesses, the firing started after 10 PM at a dance studio on Garvey Avenue sometime after 10 PM during the Chinese New Year Celebrations.
An owner of a restaurant across the street told that at least 3 people rushed into his shop and asked him to shut the doors, fearing a gunman roaming around in the area.
The eyetwitesses claimed that the accused had a semiautomatic gun with multiple rounds of ammunition on him. The news portal also reported that the people in the night club informed that the gunman was shooting indiscriminately.
The incident took place near the site of Chinese Lunar New Year celebration, attended by tens of thousands people. This is the largest Lunar New Year event in the reigon which runs for two days.
