Athlete Convicted Of Girlfriend’s Murder To Be Released From Prison After 11 Years… Know What Lies Ahead

Oscar, known for competing in the Olympics with prosthetic legs, is commonly referred to as the 'blade runner.'

Former Paralympic star Oscar Pistorius is currently in jail for the alleged murder of his girlfriend. After 11 years, he has become eligible for parole, and his release is expected on Friday, January 5, 2024. Oscar, known for competing in the Olympics with prosthetic legs, is commonly referred to as the “blade runner.” He was convicted of fatally shooting his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Valentine’s Day.

It’s worth noting that although Oscar became eligible for parole in March 2023, the parole was officially granted on November 24, and it will take effect in the coming year.

The question now is, what will happen to Oscar after his release under South Africa’s purported restorative justice program? According to the South African Department of Correctional Services (DCS), in November, it was stated that Oscar would complete the remainder of his sentence in the country’s community correctional system. His sentence is expected to conclude in December 2029. Until then, he will remain under the supervision of the DCS, subject to the conditions of parole.

During this period, a monitoring officer will be appointed. Oscar will be required to inform this officer whenever he seeks employment or decides to change his residence. It is anticipated that Oscar will now reside in Pretoria.

When Oscar was just eleven months old, he lost both legs due to a genetic condition. Subsequently, he was fitted with prosthetic legs. He became a notable figure in athletics, winning 6 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal in the Paralympics. He also participated in the 2012 London Olympics, making history as the first athlete with prosthetic legs to compete in the Olympics.

Oscar reached the semifinals in the 400-meter race, securing the 8th position. His presence in the London Olympics earned him worldwide acclaim. However, a year later, he turned into a villain as he was involved in the tragic incident of his girlfriend’s murder.

According to the Daily Mail, after a dispute, Oscar fatally shot his girlfriend Reeva. In his defense, he claimed that he accidentally shot Reeva, unaware of her presence. It’s worth mentioning that Reeva was a model.
