Eiffel Tower Bomb Threat: The Eiffel Tower in central Paris, one of the Seven Wonders, has been threatened with a bomb blast. After this, the police has started the work of evacuating the tower. Till now three floors have been vacated.
There is a tight police guard outside the tower. It is closed for tourists on Saturdays. The bomb disposal squad is busy investigating on the spot. Bombs are also being searched around. Police has barricaded all around. Common people have been instructed to stay away from the Eiffel Tower.
All three floors were evacuated
The Eiffel Tower is the oldest tower in France. Last year, 6.2 million tourists visited. According to the information, at 1.30 pm on Saturday, authorities recieved a threat regarding exploding the tower through explosives. After this, the police swung into action. People have been removed from three floors full of tourists and around the monument.
Bomb disposal squad is investigating
SETE, the organization that runs the site, said bomb disposal experts as well as police were searching the entire area, including a restaurant located on one floor.
The construction of the Eiffel Tower started in 1987
Construction work on the Eiffel Tower began in January 1887 and ended on March 31, 1889. Two million tourists arrived during the 1889 World’s Fair.
It has 7,300 tonnes of iron. The addition of the lifts, stores and antenna brought the total weight to approximately 10,100 tonnes.
