Amid speculations about his health and an unusually quiet weekend, US President Donald Trump categorically dismissed the rumours, saying on his social media platform Truth Social that he “never felt better”. Trump’s bold statement came amid viral hashtags like #TrumpIsDead and #WhereIsTrump trending due to questions from the public and media over his recent lack of public appearances.
On Sunday night, Trump posted, “NEVER FELT BETTER IN MY LIFE. Also, DC IS A CRIME FREE ZONE!” The message came after a quiet weekend spent golfing at his Virginia resort, a far cry from the active public activities many expected. The statement was seen as a direct response to rumours fuelled by the empty White House schedule released on Friday, which further fuelled talk about his health.
Trump’s post was also a response to a message on Truth Social by American political commentator Rogan O’Handley, in which he criticised the media for its silence over Trump’s absence, while President Joe Biden is often criticised by the media for not making a public appearance for days.
Despite no official confirmation of Trump’s health, rumours have swirled on social media. However, on Sunday, the president was seen at the White House in good spirits, wearing a white polo, black pants and his famous red ‘Make America Great Again’ hat. He was with his family and later headed to his golf club in Sterling, Virginia, a move widely seen as a strategic attempt to quell rumours.
Providing reassurance, Vice President JD Vance said in a recent interview that he is ready to assume responsibility if a “terrible tragedy” occurs, but he also stressed that Trump is fit and energetic.
Through his public appearances and messages on social media, Trump has made a clear effort to quell health rumors and bolster his image of strength and energy.
