Nepal PM Oli Resigns Amid Ongoing Protest In Country

Earlier today, Oli contacted Chief of National Army General Ashok Raj Sigdel seeking assistance from the military to control the rapidly deteriorating situation and to safely depart the Prime Minister’s residence.

Nepal PM Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli resigns amid ongoing protests in the country. The youth of Nepal started massive protests against the government’s ban on social media, which soon took a violent turn.

The Nepal government banned social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram on September 3. The protesters reached the Parliament House and clashed with the police. So far 19 people have died, and more than 200 people have been injured in this violence.

Because of the ongoing protest, Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu has been shut down, and all flights have been cancelled. According to media reports, residences of several leaders, including the private residences of Nepal’s President and Prime Minister, have been attacked, vandalised, and set on fire.

Also, protesters set the private residence of former PM K.P. Sharma Oli, in Bhaktapur, on fire as demonstrations against the Government over alleged corruption tore through the country.

Vehicles were damaged and set on fire in Kathmandu, as protesters continue their demonstration against alleged corruption in Nepal.

Speaking to ANI, a protestor said, “We are very happy that Nepal Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli has resigned…”

Another protestor said, “It is very good for our country that Nepal Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli has resigned. Now the youth will stand and give its contribution in developing the nation.”
