New Delhi: Nepal Congress Party candidate Ramchandra Paudel won the presidential election in Nepal. The Election Commission of Nepal announced the poll result on Thursday Evening. He got 33,802 votes while his rival Subhash Chandra Nembwang got only 15,518 votes.
Ramchandra Paudel was the candidate of an eight-party coalition led by Prime Minister Prachanda. While Nembwang was supported by the CPN-UML.
Poudel got the votes of 214 MPs and 352 MLAs. Nepali Congress chief Sher Bahadur Deuba congratulated Ramchandra Paudel for his victory.
“Hearty congratulations to my friend Ram Chandra Poudelji on being elected President,” Deuba wrote on Twitter.
882 public representatives votes to elect the President, which includes 332 MPs and 550 members of provincial assemblies of seven provinces of Nepal.
According to the Election Commission of Nepal, 518 provincial assembly members and 313 MPs voted in the presidential election. This is the third presidential election in Nepal since it became a republic in 2008.
