New Delhi: World politics are tense around US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s anticipated trip to Taiwan, with China, which asserts sovereignty over the island, issuing cautions against any such travel. The White House, however, has cautioned China against overreacting and sent four warships on “regular” deployments to the east of the island. Pelosi has not yet formally declared that Taiwan will be included in her current Asia tour. However, it has been claimed in Taiwanese and US media that it will happen.

According to a statement from the ministry, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated on Tuesday that US lawmakers who “play with fire” on the Taiwan issue will “come to no good end.” He didn’t name a specific American politician. China has voiced opposition to Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the US House of Representatives, visiting Taiwan.

In order to track US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as she travels to Taiwan, online users are currently following a US Air Force flight that took off from Kuala Lumpur.

As tensions between Beijing and Washington rise, China on Tuesday issued a warning that the US will “pay the price” if US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visits Taiwan.
