The military of Myanmar carried out an overnight airstrike that destroyed a hospital, leaving 34 killed and 80 injured on Wednesday. The military targeted the airstrike in territory held by a major ethic rebel group, Arakan Army.
Myanmar airstrike in rebel zone
According to a report published by India Today group, the military attack took place in Mrauk-U township in the Rakhine state. The rebel group held the region and have a full control in the conflict zone.
At least 34 people were killed and 80 injured in the incident. The ruling military establishment did not acknowledge of any such airstrike in the region.
Fighter jet hit hospital
According to news agency AP, a senior service official told that a fighter jet released two bombs at 9:13 pm. The report cited that one bomb exploded at recovery ward while another hit the hospital’s main building structure.
The official said that he registered deaths of 17 men and 17 women early in the morning. He further added that several vehicles were damaged due to the explosion which were parked in the vicinity.
Video shows hospital debris
Video circulated on social media showed the damaged structure of the hospital and the medical equipment lying on the ground.
The hospital had been serving the people in the region as a primary health centre as the other hospitals were not functioning due to the civil war in the region.
