California: Twitter owner Elon Musk on Monday recommended that voters pick Republican candidates for the US Congress in Tuesday’s midterm election.

“To independent-minded voters: Shared power curbs the worst excesses of both parties, therefore I recommend voting for a Republican Congress, given that the presidency is Democratic,” Musk said on Twitter.

“Hardcore Democrats or Republicans never vote for the other side, so independent voters are the ones who actually decide who’s in charge!,” he added.

Since taking over Twitter, civil rights groups have criticized the Tesla CEO’s stance on content moderation over his absolutist free speech stance, Reuters reports.

The rights group expects an increase in the volume of misinformation and hate speech on the platform.
