Saudi Arabia Deports 24,000 Pakistani Beggars

In a major development, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Azerbaijan have deported thousands of Pakistani citizens this year on allegations of begging.

Reports suggest that many of those deported had entered these countries on tourist visas but overstayed and resorted to begging, with no plans to return home.

Sharing details with Pakistan’s National Assembly Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Rights, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director General Riffat Mukhtar Raja said that at least 51,000 Pakistanis have been offloaded or deported from various countries in 2024 alone.

Saudi Arabia has taken the strictest action, expelling around 24,000 Pakistanis on charges related to begging, the highest number recorded by any country.

The UAE has deported nearly 6,000 Pakistani nationals, while Azerbaijan has sent back about 2,500 Pakistanis accused of begging.

Azerbaijan’s move has drawn particular attention, as Pakistan has recently made visible efforts to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties with the country.
