“Police are investigating the motive. So far it’s a mass shooting,” Worapat Sukthai, deputy police chief of Bangkok’s Bang Sue district told AFP.
Images have emerged on social media and also include CCTV footage from shops in the fresh food market of individuals in reaction to the store appeal and running away. Interestingly, the police are working on finding the accused and confirming the planning and motive of the attack.
Thailand has seen a sharp increase in gun violence in past years. One incident was in October 2023, when a 14-year-old boy shot at Bangkok’s Siam Paragon mall, killed two, and injured others.
In October 2022, the country was stunned by the massacre at a child care centre in northeastern Thailand, in which a former Royal Thai Police officer killed about 36 people, including 24 children, and then killed himself, and his wife and stepson.
