The man who spent 17 years of his life in UK jail for the crime he did not commit decided to leave Britain for good. Andrew Malkinson, 57 wants to surrender his UK citizenship to become a Dutch National.

He boarded Eurostar train from London’s St Pancras Station to Amsterdam on Monday. He expressed his emotion and said, “I was born here but I don’t identify with it and it doesn’t feel like home after what I’ve been through. It’s been a long time coming but this is the first day of the rest of my life. I feel more Dutch than English and I would like the Foreign Office to negotiate a Dutch passport. I don’t think it’s a big ask on humanitarian grounds”.

Andrew said that he was born in UK but he did not find attachment with it and he does not feel like home after what he has been going through. He further said he is more a Dutch than an English and He would negotiate for a Dutch passport in foreign office.

According to the Mirror, Andrew worked in Netherland when he returned temporarily to the UK in 2003 and was wrongly arrested into fake case.

The Court in UK again heard the DNA evidence and has put another man in radar for the rape in Salford, Greater Manchester.

Andrew said if he had not been arrested in fake case, he would be 23 years only now and would be eligible for a passport. He further said UK administration has taken away everything – Joy, love relationships. Andrew is hopeful for the passport and wish going to Holland that will help him to coming him to coming out from this time loss. He will be back with friends and will try to live the life with zeal.

The officers who framed Andrew in the fake case were slammed at the original trial. But Andrew said he wanted authorities must be accountable. Andrew wants compensation. He took degree in Maths and science in Jail. Andrew said, it almost drove me mad. I don’t think I’ll ever stop feeling angry. One life is all we have and they’ve devastated mine.”

Andrew’s lawyer Emily Bolton, of charity Appeal, helped him to secure his release. Andrew said Thank you to her and hugged her. She told him, “you have got this! Andrew”

Eurostar passengers asked Andrew for selfies. For now, Andrew can only stay in Holland for up to 90 days.
