A man who allegedly ran naked down the aisle of an Australian domestic flight, knocked over a flight attendant, and caused the plane to turn around was arrested by police at the airport, officials reported on Tuesday.
The incident occurred early during a Virgin Australia flight scheduled for 3 hours and 30 minutes on Monday night, traveling from Perth on the west coast to Melbourne on the east coast.
Flight VA696 returned to Perth Airport because of a disruptive passenger, according to an airline statement. Virgin Australia reported that Australian Federal Police officers were waiting for the plane and removed the disruptive passenger. Police stated that officers arrested a man who allegedly ran naked through the aircraft mid-flight and knocked a crew member to the floor.

The man was taken to a hospital for assessment, where he remains, according to a police statement. It is unclear how or where on the plane the passenger removed his clothes. Police anticipate summoning the man to appear in a Perth court on June 14, but the charges he will face have yet to be finalized.
The airline apologized to the “guests impacted” and emphasized that the safety of passengers and crew was its top priority.
Both the airline and police declined to comment further beyond their statements. According to the Australian Broadcasting Corp., it is understood that no one was injured during the incident.
