Can you imagine a man without his sexual organs? 55-year-old Shaun Evans from Wolverhampton had to get his penis amputated and it was not for any sex change which is making headlines these days. He had to go through this tough decision to save his life as he suffered from rare penile cancer.

Sharing his story, Shaun says that he initially saw his penis swollen and dismissed it as a bad bruise on the organ. He woke up to anxiety and tension the day he saw it bleeding while taking a shower. It looked like a cold sore at the base of it, he says.

When he shared this with a doctor by whom he was being treated for a heart attack, he was immediately referred to a specialist where the suspicion of penile cancer erupted. For the confirmation of the disease, a biopsy was required to be followed by the treatment but because Shaun Evans was undergoing treatment and was given blood-thinning medications, it continued to delay.

Evans was left with pain and plight and was unable to walk in the meantime he waited for the treatment. When the diagnosis happened months after he initially realized the symptoms, he was told that he was suffering from penile cancer and the disease had grown to the extent that it needed nothing else but the amputation of the organ now.

He went under the knife before Christmas and got his penis removed. On how he felt, Evans says – loneliest. However, he chooses to tell his story to raise awareness among people about the disease.
