The Indian embassy has issued fresh travel advisory for Indian nationals  in Ukraine and has asked them to leave the country at the earliest in view of a fresh wave of hostilities. The envoy also advised Indian nationals not to visit the Eastern European countries in its recommendation.

The embassy said, “In view of the deteriorating security situation and recent escalation of hostilities across Ukraine, Indian nationals are advised against travelling to Ukraine.”

Since October 11, when Russia began its largest missile bombardment against the Ukrainian capital since the war’s start on February 24, this is the second notification from the Indian side. After the missile attacks, India had expressed its “deep worry,” as it suggested a new stage of attrition in the nearly eight-month-long conflict.

Martial law

President Vladimir Putin had earlier on Wednesday declared martial law in the four most recent annexations of Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, and Donetsk. The action suggested that Russia is securing its hold on eastern Ukraine.

In the early stages of the conflict, India launched “Operation Ganga” to evacuate over 20,000 of its citizens who were in Ukraine. According to diplomatic sources, 500 Indian residents still reside in Ukraine because they have “residency permits” for personal or professional reasons.
