Kolkata: An Air Force host has been arrested for transporting nearly a kilogram of gold from Muscat to Kannur, hiding it in her rectum, a DRI source said today.
Acting on a special intelligence tip from DRI Cochin, Inland Revenue (DRI – Kannur) officials kidnapped a cabin crew member identified as Surabhi Khatun from Kolkata who arrived at Kannur International Airport from Muscat on May 28.
During his search, 960 grams of smuggled aloe vera was found hidden in his rectum, a source told the Press Trust of India news agency.

After questioning and completing necessary formalities, she was produced before a magistrate and lodged in Kannur Women’s Jail for 14 days, a source told news agency PTI.
This is the first case in India where an airline crew member has been arrested for smuggling gold by hiding it in the rectum, the source said.
A detailed investigation has begun and the evidence collected so far shows that he has smuggled gold several times in the past. The involvement of persons living in Kerala in the smuggling ring is also being investigated, a source told the Press Trust of India.
A representative for the airline has been contacted for comment but has not yet responded.
