Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah on Wednesday announced his support for the formation of an interim government tasked with organizing fresh elections in the country. In doing so, he endorsed Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki to lead the electoral government in the Himalayan nation. “I fully support the proposal from you to lead this interim/electoral government, former Chief Justice Sushila Karki. I would like to respect your understanding, wisdom, and unity from the bottom of my heart. This shows how mature you are,” he said.
Meanwhile, through a social media post, Shah made a powerful appeal to the Gen Z and people of Nepal. He wrote, “My request to dear Gen-G and all Nepalis. The country is now in a different situation that has never been seen in history. You are now taking steps towards a golden future. Please do not panic at this time; be patient. “

He further stated that the country is now in the hands of an interim government, which will organize fresh elections and give a new mandate. Meanwhile, he urged those competing to take the leadership of Nepal to stop rushing and wait for elections. “What I would like to say to my friends who are rushing to take the leadership right now is that the country needs your passion, your thinking, your honesty permanently, not temporarily. Elections are held for that. Please do not rush,” Shah said.
He emphasized, “Honorable President, to protect the historic revolution brought about by Gen Z, an interim government should be formed and Parliament dissolved without delay.”
Nepal Protests
Violent protests have entered their third day in Nepal. As of Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the death toll has risen to 30, while hundreds are injured. An increasingly fierce protest, led by Gen Z, erupted on Monday, August 8, with demands to lift the ban on social media platforms and government corruption. Following the massive youth-driven agitation, the demonstrators vandalised and set fire to outgoing Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s private residence in Balkot, Bhaktapur. Shortly after, he resigned from his post and reportedly fled the country.
