JNU’s move was made on a day when the government temporarily suspended the Twitter handles of the Turkish news broadcaster, TRT World, because it had been spreading misinformation against India. The adventures go hand in hand with a rising sentiment in India that seeks to boycott Turkish products and services.

Turkey has been receiving anger recently for supporting Pakistan following Operation Sindoor, conducted by India following the Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in the death of 26 civilians in cold blood. The use of a drone (allegedly of Turkish origin) by Pakistan against Indian targets also made India livid. India and Pakistan reached an agreement on May 10 to cease military movements following four days of intense strikes of drones and missiles across the border. India’s trade relations with Turkiye is also likely to be affected by Ankara supporting Islamabad and criticising India’s air strikes on terror camps in Pakistan.
