New Delhi: The long awaited conviction of Ghislaine Maxwell has finally come into fruition. She is the former girlfriend of sex-offender Jeffery Epstein and the daughter of former media proprietor and British MP Robert Maxwell.
Ghislaine Maxwell will be spending 20 years behind the bar. She has been prosecuted for colluding with Jeffery Epstein in the constant abuse and trafficking of under-aged girls.
On Tuesday, Ghislaine Maxwell was prosecuted in five out of six counts of high-profile case. She was found guilty of sex trafficking of a minor, transporting a minor with the intent of sexual abuse. The court said that Ghislaine Maxwell, was convicted for offences that she had committed for more than decade, between 1994 and 2004.
Judge Alison J. Nathan sentenced a prison term of 20 years for Maxwell along with a $750,000 fine. The judge also made not of the fact that during the trial Ghislaine has never shown any sort of remorse and hence she wanted to send an “unmistakable message” that nobody was above the law.
Ghislaine never affirmed to the culpability and laid down blame on Jeffery Epstein for the abuse. She said that meeting him was the “greatest regret of my life”. She also called him “a manipulative, cunning and controlling man who lived profoundly compartmentalized life.”
However, contrary to Maxwell’s belief the judge said that Maxwell was not being convicted for her own “heinous and predatory” crimes and not the ones committed by Jeffery Epstein. The judge also criticized Maxwell’s “pattern of deflection and blame”.
