Jailed In Pakistan, Imran Khan To Contest Elections In England

Cricketer turned politician and PTI chief Imran Khan is likely to contest elections from behind bars but this time not for Pakistan.

PTI chief Imran Khan perhaps sees no future in the politics of Pakistan and therefore has decided to contest an election in Britain. Cricketer turned politician Imran, considered one of the most popular and talked-about celebrities of Pakistan, has decided to try his luck in Britain. Wondering how is it possible? Let’s add more to it: he will be contesting this election from behind the bar.

Imran Khan has decided to contest for the position of chancellor at the prestigious Oxford University, the institute from which he pursued his graduation. Notably, while making his test debut for Pakistan in 1971, he also captained the cricket team of his university. He studied Economics and Politics at Keble College, University of Oxford in 1972.

This is not his first attempt to be a chancellor at a university, the former PM of Pakistan was the chancellor of the University of Bradford, England.

As per the reports, Imran will run for the election this time from his prison cell through an online ballot.

He’s behind bars on multiple charges including corruption, terrorism, contempt of court, and something as deadly as blasphemy. He outlined the military supremacy in Pakistan and questioned it during the ending days of his tenure. His visit to Russia amid the Russia-Ukraine war caused a stir in the West and his own country.

Imran in his defence also cited examples of neighbouring nation India on how it tackles the East-West issues and deals with a spine. He was arrested in 2023 after a sudden penetration of police at his residence causing outcry among his fans.
