Drunk Driving: Driving a car with full responsibility is a significant task for every individual. Drunken driving is not allowed in India as well as many countries and it is a punishable and chargeable offence as it poses a threat to people and one’s family on the road.

In an attempt to control fatal accidents and cases of drunk driving, the Italy government has brought a new plan to offer free taxi rides for nightclub goers. It is a testing programme that is part of an initiative started by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini. It will run till mid-September.

Programme details

The trial of this programme will be carried out at six locations across Italy from this month until mid-September. The six nightclubs, from Puglia in the south and Vaneto in the north, will come under the pilot programme. The transport department of Italy is funding this pilot programme and if the trial will be successful then it will be regularised permanently.

Transport Minister Matteo Salvini informed that this initiative has brought to stop slaughter on roads. this programme aims to prevent danger and tragedy on the roads. The fine and drink-driving laws are not enough to control drunk-driving problems. This programme will give payment for the transport to those who, undergoing the alcohol test at the disco exit gate, exceed the limit set for driving.

Meanwhile, the programme has also been criticised by social media users. Few people comment that the scheme “rewards” excessive alcohol consumption.

Another person said that, ” I am so happy that people can now get wasted on alcohol without consequences and the State will pay for their transport”.
