Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the BJP-led NDA won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday.
In X’s message, which was written in Italian, he said the two countries would continue to work together ‘to strengthen the friendship that unites’ Italy and India.
‘We congratulate @narendramodi on his new election victory and wish him good work. We will certainly continue to work together to strengthen the friendship that unites Italy and India and to strengthen cooperation on the issues that unite us, for the well-being of our people and our people,’ she said in the message.

In response, Prime Minister Modi said his government ‘is committed to deepening the India-Italy strategic partnership based on shared values and interests.’

The BJP-led NDA won 292 seats in a tight fight, while the opposition INDIA Bloc won 233 seats. The BJP won 240 seats, or a majority of 272 seats, while the Congress got 99 seats, compared to 52 seats in 2019. Others, including regional outfits and independents, won 16 seats.
In addition to a possible lower number of seats, the NDA is also threatened with a reduced vote share. In contrast to 2019, when it received more than 50 percent of the vote, the ruling alliance had 46 percent of the vote.
