Amid the Israel-Hamas conflict’s second day, the IDF described the past 24 hours as challenging due to unprecedented events that followed Hamas’ Saturday attack. Israel initiated retaliatory measures, declaring an all-out war against Hamas and mobilizing all army reserves.
Israel Defence Forces spokesperson Richard Hecht likened the situation to Israel’s 9/11 but emphasized that it was even more severe.

He stated, “In a way, this is our 9/11 and even more than that. It wasn’t crashing into a building. It was mutilating and attacking the Gaza Strip Nature Party, attacking civilians, kidnapping a grandmother.”
Hecht stressed that Israel would respond firmly to these actions, which violated international law and Islamic principles, particularly those harming children. He expressed hope that Hezbollah and Iran would refrain from joining the conflict, emphasizing Israel’s readiness.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared a “state of war” on Saturday as Palestinian militant group Hamas launched over 3,000 rockets into the country and engaged in armed clashes, infiltrating Israeli territory up to 15 miles. Hamas referred to this operation as the ‘Al-Aqsa Flood.’
Netanyahu asserted that Israel was determined to emerge victorious from this conflict, acknowledging that it would be a challenging and time-consuming endeavor. He stated, “This war will take time. It will be hard. Challenging days are still ahead. But I can guarantee one thing: with the help of God, with the help of the joint forces of all of us, with the help of our faith in the eternity of Israel – we will win.”
In the 24-hour span that followed, Israel claimed to have killed 400 Hamas militants in retaliatory airstrikes in Gaza. However, Israel also suffered significant losses, with a death toll surpassing 1000 and over a hundred Israelis taken as prisoners by Hamas. Israel’s ambassador indicated that Iran was likely involved in the conflict.
