At least five people, including two children, were killed in an Israeli strike in Gaza’s al-Mawasi, west of Khan Younis. “Five citizens, including two children, killed and others injured, some seriously, as a result of an Israeli missile strike,” civil defence spokesperson Mahmud Bassal told AFP on Wednesday. The missile struck a shelter camp near a Kuwaiti field hospital.

According to the hospital, the strike claimed five Palestinians’ lives – two women aged 46 and 30, a 36-year-old man, two children aged 8 and 10, and wounded 32 others. The dead bodies were recovered from al-Najaat camp, which has housed hundreds of displaced individuals in recent months, reports added.

In a post on X, the Israeli military said it had hit a “Hamas terrorist” in southern Gaza following a clash with Palestinian militants in the region that left five soldiers wounded earlier on Wednesday. “In response to Hamas’ blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement earlier today, in which 5 soldiers were injured, the IDF & ISA struck a Hamas terrorist in southern Gaza,” Israel Defense Forces said.

Strike triggers panic among families
Witnesses said the initial strike that hit a shelter camp inside the al-Mawasi displacement area near the Kuwait hospital triggered chaos and panic among families who were taking refuge nearby, BBC reported. Meanwhile, Hamas called Jerusalem’s action ‘barbaric, indiscriminate and a violation of the ceasefire’ that started on October 10.
